How to Revise a Whole Subject in One Week (Without Crying)

So, its one week before your exam, and you still haven't even opened your textbook. Sound familiar?
Don't stress, we have all been there. Other things that a front seat and our academics get pushed to the back of our mind. But then, something pulls it to our attention. I know you're all thinking: "I only have a week left, I am so screwed!". And, its natural to think that, but a significant difference is possible. Not ideal, but doable.
This blog post is a clear, no-nonsense plan to cover any subject in 7 days without burning out.
STEP 1: Prioritise RUTHLESSLY
First things first, you have to look at your syllabus/specification. It's a ready-made checklist of what will be examined on your paper. You are going to want to go through it, use examiner's reports, and spot patterns in the most common exam topics. Highlight the ones that appear most frequently
Remember, don't try to learn everything, try to learn what matters most.
STEP 2: Plan Your Week Backwards
Break down everything that needs to be covered into individual tasks. Then, divide it by 6. That is how many tasks you will have to complete a day.
Create a very rudementary revision timetable. Simple is better. Use time-blocking or just keep it as tasks, whatever is more effecient for you. Leave an hour or two every day to complete at least 1 past paper in timed conditions.
For example, if you are revising Biology, split it into cells, disease, energy, etc. Then assign a day to each task, and do past paper questions based off of what you learned.
STEP 3: Use Active Techniques ONLY
Think flashcards, blurting, mind maps, past paper questions. DO NOT JUST REREAD AND HIGHLIGHT. It is a waste of your time and effort.
The most effective strategy in my opinion is to blurt. You start by taking your notes, reading them once or twice, put them away, write whatever you remember on a whiteboard or piece of paper, then check and correct with a different colored pen.
STEP 4: Test Yourself Every Day
End your day with past paper questions or Quizlet flashcards. Spend at least an hour doing this. Review whatever topics you have studied that day and engrain it into your memory. Mark with an official mark scheme when possible to learn what exactly examiners look for in papers.
STEP 5: Simulate the Real Thing
On the final day, sit a past paper under exam conditions. Silent room, no music, no distractions, just you and the paper. Review your answers afterward and note any weak spots. Next, do quick revision on your worst areas, via youtube videos or flashcards.
Remember, DO NOT CRAM TILL 3AM THE NIGHT BEFORE. You WILL crash and burn. Don't say I didn't warn you!
That's all I have for you guys today! I promise, one week is 100% enough to make a real difference. Please remember to hydrate, rest, and sleep enough before your exams.
