Unlocking Peak Productivity: Mastering Strategic Rest for Optimal Study Energy

Malek

It is within the popular “hustle culture” to completely forget about rest in favour of non-stop productivity. Unfortunately, this culture has become popularized and many pride themselves in being non-stop “hustlers”,

In the context of school and education, this hustle culture also plays a part in the student’s motivation to study. Though the right thing to do, if you want to achieve academically and feel more confident about yourself, is to completely throw this culture and mindset in the trash. Instead, you should vow to maximize the positive effects of taking rest from your studies.

Since many students find themselves unable, or incapable, of taking a healthy amount of rest from their studies, due to academic pressures, I’ve written down some methods you can use to maximize the benefits of whatever rest time you manage to get:

1- Short power naps:

Short power naps are naps that last between fifteen to thirty minutes. These kinds of naps can completely eliminate your fatigue for the next several hours at least. It has been scientifically proven that they strengthen your memory and give you an energy boost for the day - which is exactly what you need from your rest time from studying.

If you are unable to take a short nap, it would be better if you try to shut your eyes and just relax your body. Your body needs to be in a completely shut-off state for at least a few minutes if you want an energy boost from your rest time

2- Distract yourself from studies

Participate and engage in your hobby for at least 10 minutes during your rest time. Or watch a YouTube video about something you are passionate about, something that usually entertains you. Just make sure that you forget that your studies, and school in general, exist.

This way, when your rest time ends and you get back to your studies, you will feel that you are again in the mood to study and not as burned out as you were before your rest time.

3- Go for a walk

When I was nearing my final board AP exams, I used to sit in the nearby cafe and study for hours non-stop. When I used to decide on my rest time, for example, 15 minutes, I immediately decided to go for a walk in the nearby park. This is because one good walk around a green area can really clear your mind, and if you really do not think about school or studies or exams during your walk, it would be near therapeutic.

Imagine this, you are sitting for hours in front of your book writing, or reading, or sitting in front of a laptop screen just going through slides, and then after it, you go out to move your body a little and to see and smell something different from the miserable notebooks and slides. That would be truly therapeutic for your rest time, and you will feel better afterwards.

Try to the best of your ability to apply all these tips during your rest time, as I have made them my usual habit when I study and take rest, and I truly do feel better and more energized when I get back to studying.

See you next week,
